Three stylish ways to embellish your home this winter (without breaking the bank)

Posted by Jane Richards on

For many of us the winter months can be rather draining (financialy) with the ever increasing cost of heating ours homes and of course buying gifts for Christmas. Spending time in doors is certainly one thing we will all be doing a lot more of over the coming months. Thankfully interior trends this winter are focused on the little things we can do around the home rather than the bigger jobs we all dread. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing more satisfying than the re decoration of an entire room. The smell of fresh paint, papering a feature wall and even the re upholstery of beloved piece of furniture, all of which give you a great sense of pride and achievement once finished.Breathing a fresh lease of life into the home doesn’t need to be costly or stressful, here are three simple steps to creating a new feel space without breaking the bank over the Christmas period. Cushions: A vibrant cushion or two can transform an entire room’s décor and deliver a bold colour statement in an instant. Luscious velvets are the big thing this winter with rich greens and purples being the colour palette of choice. With so many great collections offering their variations on this theme it can be hard to know where to begin. One collection I am rather fond of is Velvets by Boeme Design. A very decorative collection of printed velvets in vibrant colours. The designs range from free flowing inky landscapes created by Jo Bound to others influenced from a love of archival 1930’s textiles, all celebrating pattern and colour. Parris Wakefield available at Jane Richards Interiors Lampshades: Every room has a talking point, whether intended or not, and lampshades are not necessarily something that you might have considered before. They have the ability transform the harsh and bright beam of a light bulb into a soft and calming gleam, helping you to create a perfect relaxed atmosphere. When it comes to finding a great lampshade it is not always as easy you might think. Parris Wakefield offers something different. The Suffolk based company produce a range of digitally printed wallpapers, fabrics, cushions and lampshades that scream ‘look at me’. Their lampshades in particular are stunning and can turn the most modest of lamp bases into a statement piece. All of their designs are inspired by the colour palettes they see around them from nature to art and fashion. Throws: One of the most versatile items you can introduce into your home is the throw. Offering many uses besides the obvious they can be draped over furniture to transform a tired chair or even used as table cloths, which is the current trend. Bronte operate from one of the most established mills in Britain, producing fine woollen throws, scarves and other accessories, and have been manufacturing since 1837. They offer a diverse collection to suit all tastes from the traditional check and plaid to the patriotic Rule Britannia range.
